What it’s like to be the only boy! The Good and the not so.

This is a back fill Post.  In September we had returned from Oregon and Washington and were soaking up the grand kids again.  The children’s choir was performing at the church and Aaron was in the little one.  As you can see from the photos above (click on them for bigger view) he has mixed feelings about the whole thing.  It was precious.

It was a pretty, if not a little hot day.  Brittany’s dance class was performing at the park so we had to go.  It was a great day.  In the photos above, Mom gets her ready in costume and stage makup.  We’re in our seats and the performers are on stage.  After we all hear the praise of her teacher (on the left).

Mini Reunion 09

Glenn and Vickie, Kitten and I and Gordon were at mom’s long enough to pose for some photos.  We had a nice visit.

Jim’s “G” or Garden guage Railroad.

Years back, Jim acquired a large collection of G guage railroad cars and engines and track etc.  He added to it and then built his Railroad Garden.  The layout, in his back yard sits on the raised hill just off the back porch and circles around in and out of the trees and rocks.  There are bridges, trestles and water features and plants.  It is a wonderful wonderland layout.

Gloria and Jim’s - Me and the little Bird.

Gloria and Jim’s place is in the woods.  There are all sorts of critters around including Deer which have gotten into the kitchen, Bear which have been on the lawn and in the trees, Squirrels and all sorts of birds from Turkey to these little Blue birds.

It was such a kick to have this wild bird land on my hand looking for food.

A Day with Gloria and Jim.

This day we loaded up Mom and Shirley, Glenn and Vickie and went to Cousin Gloria and Jim’s place near Big Fork.  Rich and Roxie came and we had a super day.  These are the poses.

Idaho, on the way from Pendleton to Billings.

(click on photos for larger view)

After our second trip to Pendleton we are headed back to Billings.  “Our work here is done.”

We decided to take a long desired trip up the Clearwater and Locksa Rivers, and over Lolo Pass on our way home.   Our first night out of Pendleton was at the State Park at Lewiston Id.  Unlike our previous visits, this wasn’t a pleasant stay.  They had shut down part of the park, had space for us only one night and YUK.  No photos of this place.

The next night was as a Passport America RV park at Kamiah, Id.  This was a nice park with lots of shade, which I am sure was nice in the summer time.  Kamiah is on an Indian reservation and is a very nice little town.  One of the neat little features of this town is a pretty nice Mexican Restraunt.  Kitten really enjoyed.

After Kamiah we moved up river and found the neatest little wayside campground about 2/3 of the way.  It was called Knife Edge Campground.  It had about 5 sites total.  It was right on the edge of the river and was free.  Amenities were limited to a pit toilet but it was so cool.

From here we continued to Mom’s and then to Billings.

Crafts on the Road.

As you know, I work while we travel.  It’s almost a hobby for me to do this “engineering” work and while I am at it, Kitten does her crafts.  This is a necklace she made for her mom as a Christmas present.

The Idaho Rattle Snake

The Rattle Snake area is a windy little two lane road that goes up Oregon 3 from Enterprise Or, becoming Idaho 129 on it’s way to Lewiston.  It’s an upside down world with high hills and deep valleys but the upside down part is that the highways generally stay on top of the hills and you look down into valleys.  There is one stretch where the highway descends off of one ridge, crosses a creek and ascends up the other side to the next ridge line.  Very winding and pretty steep.  Makes an exciting drive.

Pendleton and the Casino.. Will we be lucky again?

We’re back at the Wild Horse Casino just east of Pendleton Oregon.  We were here a couple of weeks ago working on the project and now we have one final meeting before the order is complete.  Once I finish this bit of work it’ll be 90 days leave before I do anymore.  Should be a nice winter.

Today was an easy drive of only about 130 miles.  The drive up the Columbia Gorge is so beautiful.  I met a man who had camped in his fishing boat with his wife.  Said he has a motor home but since his wife’s surgery they wanted to “rough it”.  The boat was on the trailer behind their pickup and they were headed to a meeting of friends for some fishing.  Now, he said they wanted the roughing it bit, she piped up and said  she missed her motor home.  Not total agreement there.  Nice to know she was doing well though.  I like happy endings.

I got the rest of my work ready for tomorrow’s meeting so now I only have to get a good nights sleep and dress up in my go to meeting clothes and the weeks work will be on.
