One of the docs was just in and reported the full result of the xrays and cat scans. She has 2 of those little ears on the side of the spine broken, 2 ribs that are broken in two places each and a third rib that is broken in one place. Holy cow batman! We are still hoping to get home today. One more doc to see. If we get control of the pain and mobility enough to satisfy them, then we are out of here. Cinnamon will be real happy to see mom.

This week started on Sunday with a trek towards the Pensacola Airport for a business meeting in Portland Oregon. I was about 45 minutes away and talking on the phone to my darlin’ when I got disconnected. This is normal with cell phones, something that I don’t see as acceptable but that’s another story for another time. After a few minutes I called back and a stranger answered her phone! What’s going on? They said Kitten fell down the stairs of the motor home and they were deciding if they needed to call 911. Long story short, they did and she was transmported to the South Baldwin County Medical Center in Foly Alabama. I whipped around on the road and headed there too. I passed the RV Park where her drive to the hospital had started, passed the ambulance on the highway and was at the ER waiting for her when they pulled in. Now I didn’t break any speeding laws (well, not by much) but I wasn’t wasting any time.
After 10 hours in the ER they had determined that she had broken at least two ribs but no hip, leg, ankle or shoulder injuries. Now broken ribs, as anyone will tell you are, one painful and two non treatable. They basically check the stuff around them for damage and give you meds for the pain and let you go home and suffer till they get better by themselves. But Kitten had extraordinary pain and this led them to doing more tests to find out why and has led us to two nights/days in the hospital. This morning (tuesday) she should get to go home. The pain is much less and the other complications have settled down so we are very hopeful.
One of the good things in a scenario where you fall, go to the hospital and all this is that as full timers we are not in any hurry to get anywhere else and we have our home here with us. When we get out of this hospital we’ll go home and play it by ear from there. We had intended to be here until at least the 15th anyway so nothing is pressing us one way or the other.
Life is good!
(BTW - I am intending to fill in the gap between these last two posts pretty soon)
